Nigeria’s Spelling Champions Set to Represent the Nation at the 2026 African Spelling Bee in Zimbabwe

Nigeria’s brightest young spellers are preparing to take the continental stage as Team Nigeria travels to Zimbabwe for the 2026 African Spelling Bee Championships, scheduled to take place from March 18 to March 21, 2026.

These outstanding students have emerged as champions after a rigorous national selection process and will proudly represent their schools, their states, and Nigeria in one of Africa’s most prestigious academic competitions.

The Nigerian team is scheduled to depart from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on March 17, 2026, and is expected to return on March 22, hopefully bringing home multiple titles for the country.

Meet Team Nigeria

The five champions representing Nigeria at the 2026 African Spelling Bee are:

• Yusuf Abdurrahman Olamide — Ar-Raheem International College, Ilorin
• Adeolu Damilola — St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado-Ekiti
• Idoghor Oghenetano — Mountain Top Schools, Lagos
• Yusuf Maryam Ayomide — Ar-Raheem International College, Ilorin
• Okediachi Chinedu Great — Madonna International Schools, Asaba
