NOTE: From the 2022 Season and onward, there shall be no Regional Level Competitions. The Best Speller per category in each state will represent the state at the National Finals. This is to minimize the risks associated with inter-state travels by our spellers.
SPELLER CATEGORIES
The Nigeria Spelling Bee is divided into two distinct categories. The Senior and the Junior. These categories are AGE-BASED and NOT based on whether the student is in Primary, Jnr. or Snr Secondary school.
Senior Category:
- Senior spellers must STILL BE 16yrs OR BELOW in December 2024 (Please do the necessary calculations).
- Senior spellers must not have passed SS2 or be writing their UTME, WAEC or Senior NECO in the 2023/2024 Academic Session.
- The advised minimum age for the Senior category is 13 years (this is not a restriction on younger outstanding spellers).
Junior Category:
- Junior spellers must STILL BE 13yrs OR BELOW as of November 2024 (Please do the necessary calculations).
- The advised minimum age for the Junior category is 8 years (this is not a restriction on younger outstanding spellers).
ELIGIBILITY
- Must attend a Primary or Secondary School in Nigeria.
- Spellers may register under their schools or privately but must supply their school details.
- Spellers must not have passed SS2 or be writing their UTME, WAEC or Senior NECO in the 2023/2024 Academic Session.
- The organizers of the Nigeria Spelling Bee may disqualify, prior to, during, or after the competition, any speller who is not in compliance with any of the Eligibility Requirements, rules of the competition or have supplied false information.
REQUIREMENTS
- Spellers are encouraged to register early and download the Study Guide and start practising early.
- The competition at the state level may run into late afternoons, schools are advised to inform parents and make provisions for spellers.
- Spellers are required to Print the Registration Confirmation page after submitting the e-Registration form.
PAYMENT OPTIONS
There are two options you can use to make payment for the competition.
Note that payment must be made BEFORE registration.
Schools can make bulk payments for all their spellers (ex: N9,000 for 3spellers or N30,000 for 10spellers, etc). Please see the FAQ for details of discounts for more than 10 spellers.
Important Notice:
The security of your teller/teller number is your responsibility. Nigeria Spelling Bee will not accept any liability arising from any loss caused by exposing or sharing your teller number with another person.

GIFT VOUCHER
There may be vouchers made available to schools/spellers by Nigeria Spelling Bee or its partners on some occasions. These voucher codes may be used to register spellers on the portal in lieu of payment.

LATE/VENUE REGISTRATION
While Late/Venue registration may be allowed in some states, a penalty of N1,000 will apply per speller, making the Late Registration fee N4,000.
We hereby advise all schools, parents and coaches to register their spellers online to get their Speller ID and download the necessary materials.
Note that there will be no refund after payment.
