The 2026 Nigeria Spelling Bee National Finals came to a thrilling conclusion on Saturday, 1st August 2026, at Deeper Life High School, Uyo Campus, Akwa Ibom State, following four days of academic excellence, friendship and healthy competition among Nigeria’s finest young spellers.
The National Finals commenced with the arrival of finalists from all 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory on 29th July, bringing together students who had emerged victorious through rigorous state-level qualifying competitions.
Organized by the Bee Spelling Competition Initiative, with the official endorsement of the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), the Nigeria Spelling Bee continues to provide one of the country’s most prestigious platforms for celebrating literacy, language development and academic excellence.
This year’s championship proved to be one of the most competitive in the history of the Nigeria Spelling Bee, with the Grand Finale stretching from the morning hours until approximately 8:00 p.m., as contestants demonstrated remarkable mastery of the English language in an unforgettable contest.
The 2026 National Grand Finale attracted several distinguished guests and education stakeholders who joined in celebrating the achievements of Nigeria’s brightest young scholars.
Leading the dignitaries was the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Aisha Garba, who was represented by Mr. Akpanossom Udoh, Director of the UBEC South-South Zonal Office.
Also present was renowned economist, banker and author of Apologies Are Useless, Dr. Omoyemi Ohazulike, alongside the State Overseer and Proprietor of Deeper Life High School, Uyo Campus, education leaders, school administrators, coaches, parents and supporters from across the country.
Their presence underscored the growing recognition of the Nigeria Spelling Bee as one of Nigeria’s foremost academic competitions.
Unlike traditional spelling competitions, the Nigeria Spelling Bee National Finals challenge participants through multiple stages designed to assess not only spelling ability but also vocabulary development, language comprehension and academic discipline.

Beyond the scholarships, trophies and medals, the National Finals carry an even greater reward.
The outstanding performers from the competition will form the core of Team Nigeria at the 2027 African Spelling Bee Championship in Zambia and the 2027 Spelling Bee World Cup in Beijing, where they will compete against the best young spellers globally.
Nigeria enters every continental championship with a proud tradition of excellence, having produced multiple African Champions, multiple Gold Award Medalists globally and establishing itself as one of the strongest spelling bee nations on the continent and the world. The newly crowned champions will now begin preparations to continue that legacy on the global stage.
