The North-East State of Gombe was home to the Nigeria Spelling Bee team on 25th November 2017 for the State Qualifier of the 2017/2018 Season of the competition.

Spellers from across the beautiful Jewel of the Savannah converged to clinch a slot and be among the elite set of spellers that will represent Gombe State at the North East regional competition.

After some grilling rounds of spelling, 6 spellers (including the brightest young speller) emerged that will represent the state at the Regional Level and who have a chance to make it to the National Final and win One Million Naira in scholarship and a chance to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee  in 2018.

Among the qualifiers are:

  • Hauwa’u Hamisu Abubakar (747) of Matrix International Academy, Gombe
  • Hafsat Ibrahim Tahir (783) of Matrix International Academy, Gombe
  • Aishatu Babayo Usman (784) of Pen Resource Academy, Gombe
  • Nana Khadija Umar (785) of Pen Resource Academy, Gombe
  • Jamila Shehu Umar (854) of Gombe International School, Gombe
  • Abdallah Umar Dokaji (863) of Al-Ahfaad International Collage, Nassarawo

These spellers will compete alongside spellers from other North-East states for a chance to emerge Finalists at the National Level.

Registration for other states is still on-going as the competition progresses. The competition calendar can be assessed HERE.

We say a big thank you to all participating schools, dedicated coaches and parents for enrolling and training these great spellers; and for their invaluable feedback.

Special thanks goes to our school host for the Gombe State Qualifier, Matrix International Academy Gombe for providing a conducive environment for all spellers.
