Abuja came to live as Spellers from all parts of the Federal Capital Territory converged in a quest to showcase their spelling prowess and be among the top Spellers to represent the FCT at subsequent rounds of the Nigeria Spelling Bee competition.

It was an emotional encounter as students who have been practising their spelling game got a chance to show off their efforts.

After 4rounds of the competition, these junior Spellers emerged the top contestants:

  • Danjuma Tabitha of Primecare Schools, Kubwa
  • Chimezie Chibundu of Kingdom Heritage Model School, Orozo
  • Hauwa Hala Safana of Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (Co-Education) Abuja
  • April Chikeluzo Nnbah of The Bees Knees School, Abuja
  • Jaachi Uzoigwe Maxine of Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (Co-Education) Abuja
  • Nusaiba Luqman Iwalewa of Al-Ibadah Academy, Abuja
  • Ariella Ehi Agada of Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (Girls Section) Abuja
  • Babalola Claribel Abisola of Deeper Life High School, Kado Estate, Abuja
  • Ngozi Ochonma Favour of Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (Girls Section) Abuja
  • Khadija Hussaini El-Yakub of Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (Co-Education) Abuja

In the senior category, these Spellers were exceptional:

  • Nwalozie Nnenna Adesuwa of Stella Maris College (Day), Area 1, Abuja
  • Hamzat Shukroh Temilola of HASMOSS Academy, Dakwa/Dei-Dei, Abuja
  • Ofortube Mmasichukwu Glory of Nigerian Tulip International Colleges, Abuja
  • Ofomaja Miracle Osolobrugwemedi of Deeper Life High School, Abuja Campus
  • Ameh Peter O. Owoicho of Stella Maris College (Day), Area 1, Abuja

Both junior and senior top Spellers will go on to represent the FCT at the North-Central regional qualifier, facing Spellers from 6 other states such as Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger and Kwara States.

At the national finals, these Spellers will have an opportunity to win a ₦1,000,000 scholarship (Snr) or a ₦100,000 cash prize (Jnr) among other exciting prizes.
The 6 national champions will also win an all-expenses-paid trip to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee 2019.
