Among the contestants was Hauwau Abubakar, a member of Team Nigeria at the just concluded African Spelling Bee in Kenya, where Nigeria emerged the Best Spelling Team including winning both Junior and Senior Championships.

Abuja came to live as Spellers from all parts of the Federal Capital Territory converged in a quest to showcase their spelling prowess and be among the top Spellers to represent the FCT at subsequent rounds of the Nigeria Spelling Bee competition.

The FCT State Qualifier of the Nigeria Spelling Bee started on a wonderful note with hundreds of Spellers in attendance.
Before the competition proper was the presentation of the Supporter of the Year 2017 Award to the Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja for its immense support in hosting the National Finals of the 2017 season of Nigeria Spelling Bee. All the contestants for the Nigeria Spelling Bee national finals have arrived Abuja on 29th June for a three day camping at Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja in preparations for the National Grand Finale on 1st July 2017 at the Multi-Purpose hall of Nile University of Nigeria.

It was an entertaining contest at the North-Central Regional Competition of the Nigeria Spelling Bee which was attended by State finalists from the North Central regional states of Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nassarawa and the FCT.
The competition which took place in Abuja saw the emergence of the 5 top spellers from the region who will represent the North-Central in the National Finals on the 1st of July in Nile University of Nigeria.
