The Nigeria Spelling Bee has kicked off the Regional Stage of the 2018 Season of the competition in the North-East of Nigeria. The North-East Regionals which was conducted in Gombe State on 12th May, saw the emergence of the first set of National Finalists in this season.

Students representing states such as Borno, Bauchi, and Gombe converged in the Capital City of Gombe for the 1-day event which was meant to test their spelling prowess and pick the best spellers to represent their school, State and Region as a whole in the National Finals.

The best spellers in the region are:

  • Adams Ishaku Ali (101) of Federal Government College Maiduguri, Borno State
  • Falmata Muhammad Mustapha (104) of Federal Government College Maiduguri, Borno State
  • Fandi Alkali Waziri (105) of Federal Government College Maiduguri, Borno State
  • Hauwa’u Hamisu Abubakar (110) of Matrix International Academy, Gombe
  • Jamila Shehu Umar (112) of Gombe International School, Gombe
  • Umar Abdullah Dokaji (119) of Al-Ahfaad International Dokaji, Gombe
  • Umar Nana Khadija (120) of Pen Resource Academy, Gombe
  • Daharatu Yusuf Tanimu (125) of Pen Resource Academy Gombe

These spellers have made it to the National Finals which will hold in Landmark University Omu-Aran, Kwara State, where they will compete to be Nigeria’s best spellers and win One Million Naira scholarship Grand Prize.
National champions will also represent Nigeria in the African Spelling Bee competition in Mombasa Kenya.
