The Nigeria Spelling Bee team organised a spelling bee as part of the Famfa Oil Literacy Day today the 6th of March.

The event which was to commemorate the World Book Day saw other events such as book reading, quiz by Mr Oscar Gbemileke (the Quiz Master) and a drama by Grandma Wura.

The spelling bee contestants were drawn from low-cost private schools in Lagos State.

Elizabeth Oscar of BODMAK Solid Beginning School won the spelling bee contest. She was followed by Wisdom Jackson of Godsave Nursery & Primary School who came in 2nd place. In third place, we have Janet Ogungbeje of Ken-Ade Private School.

The winner won a #100,000 cash prize from Famfa Oil and #100,000 deposit from Stannic IBTC Bank and a Desktop Computer for the speller’s school.

The runners-up both won #100,000 deposit from Stanbic IBTC Bank.

The 3 winners will join the top spellers from the Lagos State Qualifier of Nigeria Spelling Bee coming up on the 7th of March to represent Lagos State at the South-West Regional Level of the competition.
